Default Rear turn light relocation

Hey folks.

I just ordered the lay back license plate frame with the tturn light relocation. I was wondering how difficult is this to install on my own. It'll be the first time I worked on the bike myselfand while I am mechanically inclined, I'm still a bit cautious.

Can I get to everything without dropping the rear wheel?

Edit* I just realized I said tail light and not turn light.

Since your mechanically inclined, you shouldnt have a problem getting your mitts between the fender and the tire.
If your comfy with electrical, that wont be much of a problem either. Everything is modular plug ins on the original light,
and as long as the new one uses the same type of connectors, it should be a piece of cake.

Did you get a HD upgrade or aftermarket?

I ordered the Harley kit. It's just temporary, until I can come up the the time and money to have some parts machined but I need toget them out of the way for some bags before Laughlin.

I was just curious about the clearence. Wrenching and electrical are no problem. I figured that if I jack it up I should have plenty of room but figured I'd ask.

Are you replacing the tail light, or adding the lay down and turn signal relocation?

You'll have fun fishing the wires through the relocation bar, but thats about it. The rest is cut and dry.
When I did mine, I had to come up with new bolts to stuff in the holes where the original signals were.

A word of caution when you remove your old signals. Some have said there isnt enough room to slide the bolt out.
If you havent lowered the bike, that shouldnt be too difficult. All I did was wiggle a bit, and give a gentile lift on the fender to free them.

Good call. I did have it lowered. I still figure jacking it up might give me enough room to get it out. If not, I'll cut the damn thing off.

Good call on the new bolts too. It hadn't occured to me that the kit wouldn't come with them. Another thing to add to the list of things to pick up.

Thanks for the help by the way. I appreciate it.

I just did mine. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't have snipped the wires where the instructions say to. I would have just snipped the protective cover off and put new shrink wrap on after I rethreaded everything. I couldn't find any crimpers for the new plugs and ended up butchering it with solder.

It's pretty easy. I've put that kit on three times in the last four months. No, I don't work at a dealership, but when I take the bags off, I stand too close to the bike when mounting and kick the left turn signal off. I may be the only person on the planet to do that, but I pass the warning along. Once you break the threaded part coming out of the bar, the only choice is to get a whole new kit -- they don't sell the bar separately. You'd be surprised how few alternatives there are for mounting rear signals on a Dyna.

For the install, if you jack the bike up you'll have plenty of room to work under the fender. Pro'ly an hour's job the first time. I think I'll be able to put the fourth one on in about 15 minutes.

I used the HD reloction kit also, hated it. Very cheap material and instructions sucked. I moved them to add saddlebags, which I have since discovered is not necessary because there is a saddlebag support out there that works on the '08 dyna without relocation.
