Thanks, I don't hear it often but one can never hear it too often.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the Street Bob. That really sounds like the bike you are looking for. After buying my 07, HD lowered the price on the 08's (exact same bike) by over 1000 dollars. It's a great bargain for what you get but, if you don't like grey motors and/or chrome, you just don't. I have a real appreciation for the blacked out bobs but I have chrome in my blood and I just can't help it. Whatever you do, don't settle, you will regret it.

Thats crazy I have spent so much time looking at used bikes I had no idea what the cost of a new one was. I can get an 08 fxdc within my budget or an fxdb for just over budget..... DAMN!!! more to consider... I appreciate your input very insightful... thanks a lot !

If I was to go out shopping for an '08 Dyna. I would definitely consider the FXDC as far as value, but I know I'd end up with a Street Bob if I could overlook the STUPID decision the harley made by making the risers and top triple tree one piece and the few hundred dollar increase in price. But I can't.

So, to me, the best advice would be to go find a left over '07 St Bob and likely be willing to travel to find one if none were available locally. And dealers are dealing big time on left over '07s. I'm just real happy that the '07 St Bob is what I decided on 15 months ago!

To be honest, I didn't realize a FXDB costs more than the FXDC. Wow, it really is a good deal then. Keep in mind that you still have to pay tax and all that crap but try not to buy from a dealer that charges a ridiculous setup fee - especially if they aren't giving you anything back for your money like in store credit or free service, etc.

Great advice!! Most of the dealers I have checked out in my area want way over MSRP. I found an 07 FXDC with less than 5000 miles on it for $11,999... only problem is its white and looks bone stock. If anyone knows any good dealers with a good new and/ or used inventory let me know. I live in MI and have been looking mostly in IL and WI... but I'm willing to travel to get it, within reason.

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff, if you are willing to travel, with current market conditions for H-D's, there is no reason to pay a dime over MSRP and good reason to expect some sort of incentive to buy. The 07 for 12k sounds like an okay deal, when you consider the retail on the 07. However, and this was my gripe when they dropped the price on the 08's, when you compare that to an 08, brand new, with a 2 year warranty, it's not that great a deal, unless the bike was bought mid to late 07 and still has over a year of warranty left or if it has been modified with things that you would want to do to a new bike that you won't have to pay for again. If it's basically a bone stock bike, with less than a year warranty on it, it's an okay deal. But, that price drop on the 08's pretty much screws all of us with FXDC's if we plan on selling anytime soon. You should be able to easily find a dealer that will sell you an in-stock bike at MSRP and would be more than happy to do it. If you look around, you can probably not only find that but also find one that will give you some store credit and maybe even offer your first service for free and/or possibly even be willing to waive freight and/or setup. In February the dealer I bought from, and paid straight MSRP, one that told me they never have and never would use gimicks to sell bikes such as in-store credit after charging you for setup, etc., was giving a thousand dollars in store credit, free first service, and no setup and freight on any new 08 Big Twin bike.

Hi bjf;
Taste is such a subjective thing. Do get what you want, but leave yourself a little wiggle-room for flexibility's sake. Whatever you end up with, you're sure to grow to love it. The best personal experience I can offer is to be sure to shop ebay and Craig's. Read my original "Newbie Northwest" post to see why. Good luck in your search. Patrick (C-A-S)

I went with the Bobbah and one reason was the chrome maintenance. I'm not a die hard chrome guy but I think a delicate balance of both chrome and blackis a good thing. I'm not about to black out my new cobra pipes or the air cleaner or the rims but I'm not about to add any more chrome either (battery box, engine/primary covers, etc). I think the factory Bobbah already has that delicate balance.

I put my new cobra speedster slashdowns on tomorrow and take her for a cruise. Hopefully I'll have an installation run-down and some pics up for your enjoyment.

To be continued...
