Default Vibration Solved?

Took my bike to the stealer to get it put on a dyno today. It still has a bad vibration at 55-60 mph and with the apes and extended controls, nobody can (or will) test-ride it. they strapped it down and when it got above 45 mph in 4th it started jumping up and down on the dyno. turns out, the rear wheel is nowhere near round. I am glad they finally figured out what was causing the vibes, and had to laugh at the dyno operator's face when she started jumping from side to side on him... I really hope this solves it. S'posed to have the new wheel here next week, and I will post the dyno pull (good or bad) when they get it done.

Damn it, man. Glad to hear you found out the easy(relatively) way.
Not round? As in not 'true' (run out?) or egg shapped?
Much better than while traveling at highway speeds!
A woman does the dyno pulls?!?!?!?
That may be worth the price of admission right there.....
Be looking forward to see the pull sheets, I bet they'll be something to be proud of.

I think "she" is the bike. Glad for you that it's no longer a mystery and no-one got hurt finding out. That would not be one of the things on the top of my list to check. I guess you figure a wheel is round and begin to look for other problems. Let us know if you find out why it was defective.

Hey tree i,m pretty certain you,ve found the cause of the vibes. I had a very similar problem with my car. I thought it was a wheel bearing rumbling / vibrating. Garage 1 says gearbox, was,nt buying that. Garage 2 found the left rear tyre had a blister on it. New tyre problem solved.
Let us know the outcome, i,m sure you,ve cracked it.

"she" is that evil <money-sucking> b_tch I call a bike (can ya tell I love it?). and egg shaped is an understatement. The dyno tech was still shaking when he came to tell me what was the problem I never had a problem with it jumping around (of course I weigh roughly double what the dyno tech does....) I am gonna call em in the morning and see if they will substitute a cheaper cast wheel for the spokes. I guess 320lbs of stupid at the controls and no rear suspension (I put stiffer springs on the shocks because they were too short and too soft- spring rate is now 430lb/in.. each. They don't move) took its toll on the wheel. I really hope they will do the swap to a cast wheel. I hate to think what could happen if I bent another one at 80mph. As for the dyno pull I am thinking She'll only put out about 65-75hp, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Ya know, Tree, after I went back and re-read it(carefully, it's well after "beer-thirty" here) I saw that you were talking about you scoot.
Just as well, I don't need to find another dyno tuner anyway .
But I must admit, it did conjure up a wild picture in my head...some dyno-tune chick getting bucked and thrown around on the bike, floppin' around so bad she left a moist spot on your seat............But I digress.
Anyhoo, glad you got the problem figured out and the Harley gods willing, you'll get a new cast wheel outta the deal.
Good Luck,
Let us know how it works out for ya[sm=icon_cheers.gif] Cheers, brother
