Default Question about shift linkage...

I wanted the black forward controls to go on my new Glide, so of course, the dealer only had the chrome ones in stock. I'm going to install them myself when they get here, but I was looking at the mid controls and I can't see how the rod from the shift lever to the transmission lever is connected and how you get it off. Are there nuts on the back side, or what? See the arrows in the photo below. (No, this is not my bike. I'm getting a FXD. I just borrowed the photo.)

Gary,

I usually don't post stuff like this, but it had to have taken way longer to take the picture, add the red arrows and upload, than it did to bend down and see the nuts on the back side of the studs on the shift linkage. Just messin' with ya! Merry Christmas and good luck with the new controls when you get them. I've changed quite a few of them.

Gary,

Sorry I didn't read to the end of your post. Hard to look at the backside of the linkage from a photo that isn't your bike. Guess I'll be getting a lump of coal in my stocking tonight.

Normally, I'd agree with you. But my bike is still sitting on the showroom floor at the dealer 35 miles from here. I don't pick it up until Friday.

I glanced at the linkage when I was down there yesterday, but not close enough to see any nuts on the back side. That's why I asked.

just behind the rubber boots are two small nuts they unthread using a small wrench. The forwards are a very easy job for what the dealers want to put them on. Where there labor comes in is they pull the primary to get the mid shifter shaft out of the primary. I will be doing the cut off method this weekend to finish my install.

What rubber boots?

I'm going to use the Kury retainer clip for a while to make sure I want to stick with the forwards (which I'm quite certain I will--I never wanted to go back to mids on my Sportster). Once I'm sure, I will use the hacksaw blade and cut the shaft to remove it.
