Powder Coated Heat Shields
Has anyone put the exhaust wrap on the actual pipe, inside the heat shields? I was wondering if that would be the best way to go so the powdercoating stays in tact, let me know.
Are you saying your heat shields are already powdered? And that you want to take them off instead of wrapping over the shields?
You can wrap the pipes without heat shields installed. That's exactly what I did with my V&H Big Radius pipes. I had to get creative with my rear mounting bracket because the wrap covered the bolt holes. See my sig pic. No heat shields under my wrap. Not sure what model bike you have and what pipes you're running. Check your mounts.
But there's absolutely nothing wrong with wrapping the pipes without the heat shields installed. In fact, it's probably a better way to go. Fabric wrap weighs less than steel, so you'll be shedding several pounds off your total weight by removing the shields.
The wrap doesn't do as good of a job insulating your flesh from heat, so keep that in mind.
Cheers,
J
