yea my local dealer in the uk advised me to go for the k+n over the s/e too, he reacons it works better with 06 bikes and will last way longer. he even said there is no need to change the backplate, just drill a couple of holes in the factory one and the k+n fits fine.

I had the SE filter. Ended up picking up the K&N...not because I had a problem...I didn't like the blue SE filter. But in the end, I'm glad I got the K&N after the things I've been hearing about the problems with the SE. And hell...the K&N is guaranteed for 1million miles. Can't beat that. I picked up the K&N recharger kit as well..for about 10-12 bucks. Anybody have a suggestion as to how long I should go before I pull the filter off and clean and re-oil? I think the documentation says something rediculous like 50000 miles. That seems like a hell of a lot. How long do you guys go before you clean and re-oil?

I have K&N filters in all my cars and bikes. I do a total service on the filters that see highway use once a year (like 25K miles) and more often for the dirt bikes. My oldest K&N is 21 years old.

I still cannot get the people at K&N to confirm that, both on their website and over the phone...Before I spend $50+ on it, I'd like to be certain...And what's all the talk about having to drill out the back plate? Maybe THAT'S why they won't commit to it being the replacement???

THANKS!

Nope, I replied to hd_sob

Your black philter may well be K&N but Wiff was saying that their are also some HD philters that are black rimmed.
