FI means the bike does a better job managing what it needs, and actually goes into a warmup cycle, so you don't need to wait around like you do with a carbed bike.

At the same time, I'd follow everyone's advice, and not hammer it too hard 'till it warms up.

The V-Rods have a lower warmup rev limiter, to keep up from hurting our engines, if the Big Twins don't, probably means it's a non-issue though...

I always let it idle in the driveway for a few minutes for the first ride of the day, or if it's been parked for a long time later in the day. Make sure it's nice and hot.

This looks like a good place to post this: CLICK HERE

I start mine and ride as well.

I heard of a guy that had a newly rebuild Shovelhead, he started it for a warm up and went back into the house. I guess he got a phone call or something, lost track of time, and it idled for something like 45 minutes. It finally shut off and he couldn't restart it. The guys who tore it back down said the inside looked like it had melted from all the heat. That was a costly mistake.

I start it in the street of it will set off the alarm on my truck in the driveway. Then idle about 30-60 seconds while i put on my gloves and zip up my jacket. I kinda lug it down the street for the first 1/2 mile, 3rd gear just barely opening the throttle to go about 25-30mph. Then i ride normal but i'm easy on it till the rocker box starts to feel warm.

As soon as the startup returns to idle, I'm in gear and rolling; easy going for a few miles.

As most here, start and ride. I, however, give it five miles or more before I really get on it.
