Default cable questions. HELP!

im putting 16'' apes on the SB. im shopping for cables, i have all the lengths figured out and now im shopping around for the best deals. J and P has every thing i need and their catalog makes it easy to find what im looking for but they tend to be on the high end for price. so im looking at jireh and midwest but their catalogs are really confusing. i think i found what i need in lenghs but i need to know are all throttle/idle cables the same from 96 to 08??? and is there such a thing as a clutch cable that fits all HD years and models??? i understand these companies try to cut cost by making inexspensive catalogs with out all the pretty pictures next to the parts to make things cheeper for us. but wow, im lost. need your help guys. thanks.

I can't answer your question directly but I had the same kind of problem shopping for my cables recently. Wound up getting from Denniskirk.com. Price was better than J&P (charge's me sales tax in Fl.), and has a fitment tab that list what they fit on. Maby check them out for price or you can cross reference what cables work on what year bikes and get your answer that way. Mine cost like $44 each for throttle and idle, $63 clutch, and about $60 for brake line.

+1 for Dennis Kirk. Better prices, better shipping/handling rates.

I just ordered through the dealer. You can just pull out the drag specialties book and pick the sizes you need. Same price as online places, without shipping charges.

That clutch cable Jireh lists for 80's 5 speeds works on my 07 SB. I think it was $19 or so. They have the lowest prices on cables, and sell good quality brands.

Thumbs up housing and travel lengths

Ensure you match the housing and travel lengths. The housing can be longer if you need longer cables due to bars etc. But the travel length has to match your stock cables. To measure the stock travel, you need to tighten the adjustment to shorten your cable housing to it's shortest length. Then measure how much wire is left sticking out past the housing.
I just bought a great pair of Barnett Stainless Steel and coated throttle and Idle cables for my Street Bob. But, the travel was too short and I am re-selling them on E-Bay.
They are for post 1996 Harley's with a 34" housing and 3 1/4" travel.
