Default 30T and SE Compensator

Just finished up the install of an Andrews 30T front belt pulley(down from stock 32) and the SE Compensator on my '07 FXDWG.

This is a very nice improvement and is really noticeable rolling out from a dead stop in first gear. There is also a big improvement in roll-on power. This should have been the first mod done on the bike. Anyone on the fence or considering this change should go ahead and do it. You will be very pleased.

The 30T is only about a 7% reduction in gearing but just that much of an increase in mechanical advantage makes a big difference in SOTP feel. Prior to the 30T install I allways felt like I needed to downshift. Nice bump in low end grunt and pulls like a bear all the way up with the 103" I did at the end of last year. Hope this helps anyone thinking about doing likewise.

I bought the primary locking tool and 2 1/4" transmission nut tool from Georges Garage. Very high quality stuff with super fast delivery, good guy to do business with. Went ahead and did the SE Compensator while the primary was apart. The stock belt works fine on an '07 Dyna and actually had some rearward adjustment to spare.

I've been thinking about this for a long time.....you're making me want to go for it. What are your rpms at around the 70mph ramge now?
Also looks like you've got a VERY good reliable engine build. I love the TW6-6 cams.
Tell me more about the 30 tooth...hows the adrews price compare to the Baker unit?

I have the 30T pulley and 37 cams, I'm just waiting for a few more parts to put them in. It's good to hear it's money well spent.

I don't have a tach so I can't tell ya what the rpm increase is anywhere but I've read that it is about a 200 rpm increase which is minimal. The Woods 6 is a great cam for this build.

I bought the Andrews 30T from Hales HD(20% off anything). Drag Specialties carries this and Hales orders from them. The Drag # for this part on an '07 Dyna is 1201-0227. Retail from Andrews is $137.95. Hales charged $110.36. Not bad considering that I was able to use the stock belt. Purchase the primary cover gasket locally so it doesn't get bent in shipping. You should also replace the gasket between the inner prmary and the crankcase. Anyone that I've had contact with who put the 30T on a late model Dyna used the stock belt with no problem. Go for it.

You guys are talking about the pulley for the belt right?

Is the install of that pulley different on newer models? Mine is an 03 and I while I had the primary apart during my engine build. I saw what looked like a spacer or bearing race on the trans shaft that looks like it needs to be pulled off. I started reading into it and it looks like there is a tool to pull it off, and one to drive it back on to a specific depth. I also found a tool to pull the pulley off as well as a pulley locking assmebly. Are all those tools really necessary? Does that race have to come off before the pulley can? I didnt look to see if the pulley center would slide over the race.

You really used the stock belt?

Every other person that I know on here who's done this always used the 40056-07.

No problems with slack on the stocker?

As far as the tools at George's... are you talking about the 620020 and 620040?

By contrast to your gearing changes, I have the SE 21T compensator kit on my 88. Original gearing gave a theoretical 140mph in top gear (some hope!), now just under 120, which is much more sensible. Pulls away far better now, especially in top (fifth), although I only have basic Stage 1 mods.

Can someone explain the purpose of the Compensator? You're not the first one I've heard of having it and they say it's a good upgrade but not sure what it's upgrading.
