Default Dyna questions

First EFI bike.2006 Dyna Wide Glide.
I bought parts recommended by the local dyno guy.V&H Big Shots, and Doherty air cleaner.I have the race tuner on back order.I called the local dealer whom I have been dealing with for some 26 odd years about installing just the pipes. The burble from the stock pipes are driving me mad,and the race tuner isnt in yet....LOL
Ive heard that you can get by with just the pipes without tuning or a download without hurting anything and itll run fine.Is this true? The service guy I spoke to said with a complete exhaust pipe change,I would need at least the download to be on the safe side.

Hummmmm,.................."And the servey says,.....No",............ If you add "JUST" exhaust you wont have to do the download,... until you add an aftermarket A/C.

I see the Vance & Hines Fuel Pack, the Power commander and DFO are recommended for use with the pipes.I damn sure didnt want to burn a piston on a $18000 bike for want of a $200 part.I also dont want to spend the money on a Power Commander or Fuel Pack when the better SERT is on back order......

In my opinion, running a full aftermarket exhaust with NO ENRICHMENT whatsoever is risky even if you still run the factory intake. Bolting on the lame SE I pipes, sure, go for it. But with a full aftermarket system, you are changing the exhaust scavenging, exhaust pulsewith etc. The lean tune on these bikes are already cutting it close enough. Go with the SERT, dial in your new VE tables (which will change) and do it right.

I have a Street Bob w/300 miles on it so far. I added the SE II slip ons at about 100 miles with no other modifications. I have had NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. Seems like if you changed the entire exhaust you would have to change air/fuel ratio.

maybe you wont have any problem but your bike will definitely run better with the proper map!!!

more fuel in this case means more power and better sound from the exhaust!!

ciao...

Exactly right... It may feel ok now.. But, It will run great with the map, this map will allow your engine to utilize the exhaust flow more efficently which was designed to do... but it's your call..
