does anybody know what type of bulbs are in a UK fat bob, riding through europe soon and its law to carry spares. looked in manual but only gives HD part numbers. any help would be appreciated as it would save me taking them all out, thanks

Burger,
They are 55 watt H11. If you buy 65 watt H9, they can also be fitted if you file off one of the plastic keyways inside the bulb end fitting. Gives a little more light. There is also a mod you can do so that both lights stay on on high beam.
Colin.
P.S. I believe all Harley Davidson International (HDI) bikes are the same.

My Canadian bike has the H13, I see PIIA has released an H13 bulb for automobiles, but nothing in the "vibration" style bulb like they offer in the standard H4.
What is the mod to keep the hi/low on? Lighting on these bikes (to me) is fairly ordinary, at best.

Dan,
I presume that you would have a US domestic bike. In your case, both lights are on for low beam and when you switch to High beam both lights are also on. Your H13 bulbs have two filaments each to achieve this. Harley Davidson International bikes are quite different. The bulbs are both H11 and are single filament bulbs. When on low beam, the R/H light only is on. When on High beam, the R/h switches off and the L/H comes on. The difference in aiming is a function of the shape of the reflector not the bulb filaments. Our mod bypasses the low beam power supply at the switch so that low beam stays on all of the time. So for my bike, one light for low beam, two for high and when on high beam one points down, the other points up.
You could probably mod' yours so that the low beam has a dual power supply. One from the low beam switch and another from the high beam switch. You could probably do this inside the light housing. Would be very careful though, as I would think it would get pretty hot and possibly shorten the bulb life.

Ya was concerned about the bulbs running both filaments at once, get hotter 'n a firecracker lol.. You are correct both bulbs on my bike function at once. I think the solution is a 7" single HID

G'day Fatboyoz, are you sure about both lights being on at the same time when on high beam? I have an '09 FB and it is definitely only one light on at a time in either high or low beam. I am looking into replacing the single shell HD setup with 2 seperate lights, each running H4's. Just went to Moss St this morning & measured the centres on the Triumphs (180mm vs the FB's 120mm) as the twin light Trumphies run both lights both high & low. The Trumphie lights are side mount so I may have to look at bottom mount lights like Kuryakins etc. Then it will be a matter of getting an autosparkie to wire in a relay so the handlebar switch doesn't melt, andthat should do the trick

Whoops, I forgot to mention Main Rads in Qld have a minimum distance between light centres on bikes - may also be an ADR requirement too, hence the Trumphie measuring trip.

Rabbi,
Better put your glasses on and read it again. I have modded mine so that with high beam selected both lights stay on. L/H on high beam and R/H on low beam.
