Default Excess play in throttle

Hey guys have an 08 fxdl that has about a 1/4 inch worth of play in the throttle at idle. At idle you can continue to roll the throttle UP about a 1/4 inch. Was just wondering if there is anyway to make a cable adjustment to take up this slack or if this was normal. Thanks in advance for any help/tips.

You can adjust both cables. The manual says how much play you are suppose to have, but I do not have the manual in front of me at the moment. Maybe someone else can help you out.

yeah, mark your current cable positions with a paint pen or nail polish then adjust that out. If you for some reason don't like the new adjustment, just put it back where you marked it. I noticed when I changed my stock grips to Kury grips, I set the cables at stock setting and they were way too loose so I had to change mine a bit.

Oh and for adjusting the cable, you should be able to grab the rubber on the cables, near the grip and roll it just like a condom to expose the adjusters.

Sorry to use that analogy, but unfortunately it is the best one

At least you didn't use the foreskin analogy! eeeeewww!

Any how when i went to kury's i adjusted the cables by eye, make sure the idle cable is tight and turn the handlebars both ways with engine on,shouldn't change idle speed.i adjusted the throtle cable until there was just the tiniest bit of play. Cables stretch and that is why there is an adjustment!
