Default question 2001 FXDX

hello...I have an 01 FXDX, trying to find out what the stock fork tube length is for the front...I have all the parts to put a fatboy front end on except for the tubes but cant find the stock length anywhere for the 01 fxdx. I'm going to try to keep the stock hight as i ride two up primarly and I'm kind of FAT.
thanks, josh

Sounds like you may want to just use fat boy forks if you do in fact have all the parts to put a fat boy front end on your bike. You could always try talking to your local indy shop about it. They may at least know the dimensions.

I have the triple trees and lower sliders and tins and headlight but NOT the fork tubes...The suspension on the FXDX is much higher than most others and am worried that if i put stock fatboy fork tubes that my bike will not be level it will be lower in front than the rear...My local HD shop is of no help what so ever.
thanks, josh

can't you just measure the stock fxdx tubes?

Hmm, I don't see fxdx tubes being bolt-in on fat boy lowers. You may want to do some more research. You can ask in the softail forum if anyone knows what length the fat boy tubes are.

I know that the fxdx tubes will not fit, they are 39mm and fatboy (stock fatboy tube length is 22.25") are 41mm. I'm trying to get 41mm tubes that are the same length as my stock fxdx tubes as to keep the same ride height...

Where would i start the measurement...from axle to top of tree or from top of tree straight down to ground?

I would measure from the top of the tree to the axle. Your FXDX also has longer rear shocks than stock. Are you keeping the stock rear shocks?
I measured mine just now (FXDXT) and get just under 32" from top of tree to axle...my wifes FXDL ('08, 49mm) happens to be the same...
Would like to see the Fat Boy front end on your Dyna...should look good.

THanks for the input...I ended up calling Harley Davidson HQ in Milwaukee and the poor lady in customer service actually pulled up the engineer drawings for me...The Fork Tubes alone measured 24.26", which if I'm not mistaken is the same length as a Wide Glide...

I'm keeping the rear shocks stock as I like the height and dont want to go lower due to my weight and always riding two up.

Gona order tubes this weekend and get all my powder coating done within a months time...front end going to be wrinkle black.

thanks, josh

Post pics as you do this, and any other mods. Also have a used 01 FXDX and am ready to start doing mods even if my wallet isn't. I would like to just take the narrow glide front and go to a mid or wide front end. you will be losing the adjustable front end the FXDX has when you switch it out. Not sure about the length but it is 39mm. Good luck with the project
