Default Plug a tire?

I normally wouldnt even think of plugging a motorcycle tire but hopefully I will be going to a 17" solid rear wheel fairly soon. I sure dont want to put a new 16" tire on then 2K miles later have to buy a new 17". Has anybody plugged a rear wheel and rode it.. AND lived to tell about it. I am deffinately staying in the city with it. I just hate dropping $200 in a new rear tire and then do it again just in a few months. But then again if no one has done it with success.. then that would be my answer. I would hate to push that bike 16 miles home in this Vegas heat....

luckily I have never had to, however it would depend on the level of emergency for me and even then I would be rolling slooooow just to be safe. Also, unless you already have a solid rear wheel you can't plug it anyway. You are running inner tubes right?

Default Plug

I got a nail in my tire with only 300 km on it. went to the repair shop and the guy put a plug in single strand not double like a car tire and now I have 5000km and not a problem. I drive up to 160 km/h.

I'm not saying that your's won't fail and kill you in 3' or 3 seconds but
I have never had a plug fail and I've been using them in rear tires since the '80s, on sportbikes and Harleys. My last Harley rear tire went almost 7k miles with a plug. Just my un-paranoid $.02

Put a tube in it and wear the tire out. No worries.

If you're running tubeless, just plug the damn thing and get on with your life. Just like Quack, I've been plugging since the beginning of time, aint had one fail, and I'm still here to tell you about it.

I keep a plug kit and air compressor with me everywhere I go, and I'll get my own a$$ back on the road rather than twiddling my thumbs waiting for someone to show up and do it for me. I also dont believe in hiding behind the unsubstantiated fears of others.

k... just never known anyone to plug a motorcycle tire... seems like it can be done then.... And if I am really paranoid then as the man said... tube it and run the tread off it... all sound advice. I just hate buying 2 new rear tires in prolly less than 4 months. Thanks for all the input folks. I have ran spokes my whole life. And ya cant plug a tube... Liking mags better and better.
