Texas Rhode Trip
Just got back last night phrom a 1400 mile 5 day rhode trip around Texas Hill country and central Texas.
Trip started out real good. Nice temps, very little wind, the bike ran great.

But it quickly turned south. Got rained on in San Angelo, just a bit, then I got just dumped on between Mason and Brady. I spent a couple nights in phredericksburg and it rained most of the time I was there. I got out and rhode a little bit anyway. Went over to Luckenbach and had a beer. I was surprised there was that many people there on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Monday was a good day though, so I rhode the Devil's Backbone in both directions.

Tuesday, I got rained on between Kyle and Bastrop, the dumped on again in Elgin. Spent the night in Belton, and it poured then too.
Left Belton Wednesday morning in the phog, crossed over Lake Belton and snapped this pic.

Went through Abilene working my way up to US380 and got one hell of a sunburn, then as I was going through Brownfield it started raining again. Quit raining about 50 miles back inside New Mexico, and when I got home the skies cleared, and nthe sun came out again.
Here's some advice phor ya... when your packing phor a rhode trip, put anything you wouldn't want wet in a ziplock bag, and always take more sox and underwear then the days you plan on being gone.

i also was riding in texas this week. didn't see anything so nice though stayed up north for the most part. hooked up woith some buddies from chicago who picked me up in denver on thier way to austin. road through new mexico and turned back after the midland stop. it was interesting, texas is a diverse state when it comes to terrain. saw some pretty stuff, saw some stuf that made nebraska look like oregon. good ride, but i have to do something about that badlander seat...
Did the opposite from you Memorial Day---
Left the Hill Country to Red River and back--2,200 miles--
Went down some scenic parts of the highways like
55 through Claunch and 249 from Hagerman to Maljamar and on to Useless (or is that Eunice?)
and back into the Hill Country. There's a whole lot of nothing to look at on those roads----(but I'd do it again).
When you do the "Hill Country" you have to get the names of all the BBQ joints first so you know where to stop for good eats.
Like Cooper's BBQ in Llano-one of the best----Elgin is not in the Hill Country but over in the sausage belt and it counts. Didn't realize how nice it was to have a sausage factory in every small town over there within 30 miles of each other until we went up to the north Dallas area and all they had was Johnsonville UUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Brats and Hillshire Farms Sausage. (ok, my girlfriend is a Norderner and has to have them--it must be an acquired taste or they never had real sausage yet) Hillshire Farms on the other hand is not even people food.

MadCityBob,, Ita a T-Bag. Found it on e-bay at a GREAT price.. Its very secure, makes a nice back rest, and holds just enought for short runs,,,cameras, a change of clothes, or for a short milk run etc,etc,.. If I was going to pay msrp on these bags I'd go with the BikersFriend version..
