Yeah, it's taken care of (sorta). The mech didn't do quite what I told him to do
taking an easier path that works, but is not as rugged as what I had asked for
and given him drawings of. This is the second mech that has decided to do something
different than asked which is very frustrating since the fix is so friggin' easy to do.

Maybe that's the problem; compared to building a chopper they just can't be bothered.

Anyway, here is the fix.

The corner of the engine guard mount that was in the way was cut off to give
room to the heim-jointed arm. A plate metal extension was fabricated to attach
to the engine guard mount using the existing bolt hole and a new one drilled lower.T
The extension goes further up the bike frame until it is well clear of the arm and
the original high-strength u-bolt is run through it there.

The extension was SUPPOSED to be of heavier metal and BETWEEN the engine
guard and the frame. There is enough flex in the guard that putting a heavier
piece between would have been no problem and would have been sturdier as the
bend in the piece used induces a stress concentration that weakens it.

It's still plenty sturdy, you can grab the guard and shake the whole bike without
it flexing, but if it had been done the way I asked it would have been a lot stronger.
I'm probably going to get it redone for the third time.

What's a real pissser is that I could do this in no time myself but I don't have
the tools & workbench required to cut and drill the plate. I have a good selection
of basic tools, but I hadn't wanted to wind up dedication half the garage to lifts,
work benches, etc. but I think I may have to go that way to make sure stuff
gets done right.

Here's a pic..
