What a mess
I'm a dumb*ss and ripped into my fork tubes for the first time and shot the first fork cap across my garage spraying fluid all over my tool box and work bench. I also took the tube apart before taking the 12mm allen bolt lose and spent 20 minutes turning it before I could get it to come out. The second went much smoother after I consulted some old post on the process. It didn't help that the cheapo drip pan I picked up from wal-mart had a crack in it a leaked fluid all over my floor either. Nothing I do to my bike is ever easy or goes as planned. I guess it's all part of the journey. I'm having the fork mounts machined off and sending a bunch of parts to PowderPro this week. I'll post some pics once I have something to show.
I bet you now know all about forks

But seriuously, I hear ya... it seems like that's how things go for me too. But I do learn a lot by doing it and feel good about it when its done. So in the end, it's all worth it. Good luck finishing your project; looking forward to pics.

Don't feel too bad, you're not alone. Sometimes I feel like I'm a qualified mechanic and other times I'm thankful that breathing is an automatic bodily functiion because I'm too stupid to do it on my own. We all have our days.

Don,t feel bad. I almost took my head off doing struts with a cheap, pot metal, spring compressor. When that fully collapsed spring let go, it fired parts across the garage I still haven,t found. Should have done more reasearch on proper tools. Glad to be around to still talk about it.
