I just took off the battery cover and unstrapped the battery then pulled it out a tugged the wires a bit. I then tried to start it and boom; it started right up. Now where in the hell should I look in the wire harness to find out what is loose? The cables on the battery were and still are on tight.

The positive lead from your battery goes straight to the starter relay. Check that connection. The negative lead from your battery should go to ground on the frame. You'll just have to trace it.

Thanks! I just did that and both connections are good. I just have to ask because I do not know; how do I check test the solenoid to see if it is functioning correctly? I am guessing that it is either that, or the voltage regulator? Would I be right in assuming those two are where the issue might be? I really don't think that the started is bad; the dealership replaced it when the stator blew up about two years ago.

Since it started after you tugged on the wires, I would follow the wires to see if you have a short in one of those wires. You may have a wire rubbing or scraping on something and tore the insulation. It would then be touching the frame and shorting the connection. Keep us posted on what you find.

Did you check the cable connection to the starter?

Sounds like the same thing that happened to me. The bike would randomly start even though it seemed like I had enough battery power and fuel pump sound. I even thought it was the starter, etc. I pulled the 2 relays in the fuse box (I don't remember which is which). I found the smallest amount of dried corrosion oozing out of one of them. Replaced and starts like a champ.

Well, It started this morning OK. I guess i need to pull the battery this weekend and work my way back towards the starter and see if a contact or crimp came loose in the harness. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

[QUOTE=ReeseSS;6154214]Check the starter relay in the fuse block, inexpensive part, even NAPA carries them! Where is the starter relay? On a 2012 Dyna super glide.

@Harky Resurrection of a 13 year old post, probably has it fixed by now.

If you need to know where the starter relay is on your 2012 Dyna, you should start a new thread so you get better responses.

Oh and congratulations on your first post to HDF, to the Forum.

On that year the relay is in the BCM (Body Control Module). Read this thread:
