What do you think? These aren't the best way to do it, but I don't want to pay much for bags. I am using just some brackets I got off ebay for $35. I used a couple black tie downs to tie down to the brackets to prevent sliding and moving. I will put some cloth under the saddlebag yolk so it won't rub any paint.

Mine rest right against the shocks. They're Willie & Max bags that I've had since 1998. I had them on my 1200C for 9 yrs and have had them on my FXDC for about a year and a half with no signs of negative impact on the shocks. I put some mole skin that I bought at a pharmacy between the yolk and the paint. It's done a pretty good job.

I've always wondered about this with "throwover" bags. Thought you had to have brackets or whatever installed for them to attach to and lay against. But you can just let them rest against the shocks???

I got a sheet of magnetic material, like a heavy paper. You can cut it to size and it sticks to the fender. You could also use 3M cleat plastic paint protector.

In all honesty most Dyna saddlebags are slanted as to sit behind the shocks, or have a cutout to go around the shocks like the Harley oem saddlebags for Dyna, pics attached are my ride with my daily bags from Bad&G and you can see they are slanted behind the shocks, your actual saddlebags will be fine, but tie them tight to the support brackets so they do not get pushed back in the wind, and brake off your blinkers, ps Left side is old and right side I got a month ago, this is why one is more used than the other.
