I think that whoever has a chrome lower belt guard that would fit an 05 model should take it off and then send me a PM because mine is cracked again and I need a new one.
So I guess if you ride solo and can stand a slight risk of belt damage which from what I'm hearing may happen with the belt guard on, I guess you should take it off.
Seriously though. I have mine on but I removed it on my previous bike. I always ride solo though.
When your girlfriend's pants leg gets caught in the belt and you crash you will know why there is a belt guard.
Or even if you don't crash and she has to go around in just her panties 'cause you ripped the **** out of her jeans and all us guy are looking at her...you'll be sorry then..

I took mine off then put them back on after noticing that the pulley looked like it was getting abraded from road sand/dirt. To clean it up a bit I altered the lower belt guard. I matched the radius of the pulley, trimmed the bottom so its level with the bottom of the belt, and cut out some of that triangle.
