i'm a firm believer in helmets and wear mine faithfully. i had a friend die while riding his dirt bike due to not wearing one. going 30 mph around a blind corner he went head on with another rider who was wearing a helmet. he walked away, my friend died. i'm not saying a helmet will save you everytime but your chances of getting to ride again greatly improves. and using a quality helmet that "fits" is to your advantage. ride safe.

Good thread I just very recently started wearing a FF although there is no helmet law in our state. Me and dad took a 300 mile ride today, halfway through I showed him all the bugs stuck to my visor (no windshield). Then as luck would have it on my way home I rode through one hell of a thunderstorm, washed alot of the bugs off! My opinion very comfortable and I see more and more HD guys wearing them. Oh and I have a low end helmet, which I'm gonna upgrade pretty quick.

I wear a Shoei RF-1000 FF on my sport bike and an HJC Snell rated FS-3 3/4 on my HD. The HJC comes with a hinged full shield and a visor. It is safe (Snell), very quiet, high quality, and the full shield stops the bugs from hitting me in the face. I highly recommend it.

Still times I enjoy wearing my half helmet so its nice to have both. Been looking for a 3/4 style that I like as well but havent found one yet. Buddy just bought one of the helicopter style ones with a flip down visor and likes it. I might give it a try for when its hotter out but dont want my half helmet.

Might try this for summer when wanting more than a half

I was SUPER close to buying that exact helmet as my half (using my FF EXO-1000 as the other). However, I read that the dropdown visor doesn't prevent wind to the eyes. So that would mean I'd still be wearing my goggles/shades.....all for a helmet I bought to get that cool heli pilot look.

I'm sure you already read the reviews on the site you linked for the image.

Ya I figured I would have to wear my glasses under it. I wear my glasses with my full face about 90% of the time so isnt a big deal to me.

As I read through this thread, the above post made me want respond. But I initially wasn't going to post because several other people have posted what I was thinking. It was kind of eerie, because some of the other posts were almost exactly what I was thinking.

But then I thought I would add, for the benefit of glideridemike, that FF helmets aren't like they were 30 years ago. My FF helmet back then was hot and heavy. It was made worse by the temperature here in the desert. But today's FF helmets, and not only the top of the line expensive ones, are much cooler and lighter. And as far as visibility goes, without moving my head, if I look as far left as I can it is possible to almost see the left edge of the helmet.

If I look to the right, the right edge is almost visible. But only one side, left or right, is almost visible at a time. Anyone that thinks otherwise has a psychological bias against wearing a FF helmet.

"I go down in a serious wreck, rather than be crippled and scrambled, I'd rather be cremated." seems really 'macho'. But trust me, if you go down in a serious wreck, or even a minor crash that allows you to get up and walk away, you want to protect your melon as much as possible. There is nothing as bad as living your life after receiving a head injury.

It wasn't too bad for me because it only meant changing my college major to something more within my newfound abilities/restrictions. But since the brain controls every aspect of a person's life, a brain injury can have effects it is impossible to visualize until you are there. And then it is too late to say "Whoops".

Thumbs up Full if no fairing

I you can, go with an Arai, it is worth the money. They have great deals on them now, and they come in different shapes, depending on your mellon shape. I wear a Corsair V, best helmet I've owned. I also wear a Shoe Multitec flip-up for the hot days. A little pricey. But with 30 years riding, spend the money.

X2 -- I love mine, I bought it because they made it for melon shape. I have a Profile, made for a long oval hat rack. Some great deals can be had on high end helmets if you know where to look. The list price on mine was ~$490 got it shipped to me here in a week for under $400.
