I read a post earlier where someone cut the leg off of an old pair of bicycle shorts and used it as a rain sock.Looked pretty good.
That's where I'm going with that. Spandex (the shorts you mentioned) would turn out pretty good. I was thinking about an old red under armour shirt. If I used the top of the shirt, I could use the tighter part around the neck to go around the back of the filter, and fasten the rest of it under the cover. A couple coats of camp dry, and I should be good to go huh?
Hubby recently put this sock on his stage I a/c kit from fuelmoto. I love the idea about the showercap - Apethtel - First time we washed it with the sock, we got a bit paranoid and tried covering the whole shebang with plastic grocery bag. That was a pain. Going to hit the dollar store and grab an old lady showercap. As for what came with the kit, just the sock. Our only problem with it is that we didn't want the HD emblem on the top and thought we'd be able to just put it on the bottom of the sock. Can't do that because there is a small fabric lip onthe top that is what holds the sock in place - along with elastic on bottom. Will not stay on upside down. Sorry - no pics with it on.
Different strokes for different folks I imagine, but the only time I have had issue with rain getting past the rain sock is when I was riding 70+ mph in the rain plus water spray from an 18 wheeler. Why am I going 70+ mph in the rain you may ask? It was to pass said 18 wheeler (happened two or three times actually) and I think a combination of the rain, spray from the truck and pressure from the induction (I had the throttle cracked open pretty good) was just more than the sock was designed to handle without letting some moisture in.
I've been running an exposed a/c for almost 2yrs now. I've been caught in plenty of downpours. I've had no catastrophic failure caused by water getting into the engine.
I'd assume by having it you may feel more at ease but IMO it's just a waste of money.
Took off the football A/C cover this weekend to wash the A/C filter element and re-installed the filter leaving off the football and mounted the 100th Anniversary trim directly to the stage 1 A/C.
In order to protect the exposed filter element from the rain, I would need an A/C rain sock like this:
I'm anxious to know if this really works when riding in the rain and what parts do come in this H-D kit.
Your advice is appreciated!
TIA
I have the exact setup pictured (#1 cover) on my workbench awaiting installation. The rainsock "kit" only comes with the sock. Nothing else. Don't know why H-D calls it a kit. lol.

It looks kinda cool, so, I stuck one on mine, even tho I have K&N element, I like the looks, and, tried an experiment....held it under the water spout, nutin much got thru...so, I would have to say it does what it's 'sposeta do....how necessary?....again, as stated, depends on weather ya ride thru -
I gotta say I really like the look of that exposed filter, better than the football. I have myself a SE stage one round filter (because my 09 didn't have the round filter), have a cover on it but thinking I could take it off have have the same look, any idea where I could get one of these 5 point brackets that hold the outer cover in place?
