Tranny question...
Fellow Dyna riders,
I've read on other threads about the 5th gear noise (?) on the 6 speed tranny, especailly noticable on the Ultra's. I will be picking up an 07 Super Glide next month and would like to hear if this noise has been an issue with anyone else who rides a Dyna.

My 06 SG transmission sounds like it is going to fall out, when it gets hot.
might have something to do with the syn3 I had HD put in it at 1500 miles.
I did switch to Mobile1 synthetic 75w-90, and it is quieter. I see some folks are using 85W-140.
Stay away from syn3 (crap).
I hope your 07 is better.

Thanks for the replies.
I had heard it was more of an issue with the Ultra's perhaps due to the layout of the lower fairing reflecting the straight cut 5th gear noise back to the rider. There's been quite a bit of discussion on this on the Primary/Transmission forum. I had planned to stay with stock oils for the first 5K miles. Any comments on the difference between synthethic vs non-synthethic oils on reducing transmission noise???

Dropped into the local Harley dealership this morning. Had an interesting conversation with the service dept rep and store manager. The impression I left with was MoCo suggest using heavier gear oil in the new 6 speed transmission. Our local dealership changes the tranny fluid out before the bikes hit the sales floor. I dont recall the synthethic brand they're using (maybe Bel Ray), but the viscosity is 75? / 140. That seems like some seriously heavy oil for a new bike. Has anyone used such a heavy synthetic in your trans? Whadaya think...
"Tranny question?" For a minute there, I thought I had time-warped to a sex forum.
Can't help with your problem. I have a five speed tranny. (*shiver* man, I'll never be able to use the word 'tranny' again when referring to my bike.)
