I have a 2003 FXD and was wondering what type and brand carb it is equiped with. It's an European model. I don't know if USA versions have the same carb setup.

 

new, ur bike came with 40mm CV ( constant velocity ) carburetor by Keihin

British 03 FXDXT here! We Europeans get the International models I believe. The differences are not easy to get to the bottom of, although Harley does not go so far as to fit different carbs. Silencers are different, thanks I understand to the Swiss having stricter noise levels than anywhere else. Also ignition systems were programmed differently at one time for the same reason (not sure if they still are).

 

what was the difference in ignition with an US and European model?

 

I don't know if this applies to more recent models like our Dynas, but the advance curve was different, holding the engine timing back until later than US spec. It was all part of the noise reduction measures on evos.
