Biker???? Motorcycle Enthusiast???? Different????? Matters at all??????
Sheesh, this is about shocks and what works and maybe a little of WHY it works.....or doesn't.
Graham has information garnered by his investment (significant....I know) and the use of the product. Take it for what it's worth. If you are staring down the bore of a 8 or 900 dollar expenditure, it's a very good thing to not feel like you're taking a shot in the dark.
Relax. Enjoy the stories. Use the information if you can.
I have Ohlins shocks too, though I didn't source them from him....I got them before I signed on here. I haven't used Ricors and will probably give them a try on my Sportster project.

You have emulsified Ohlins shocks. I have separated Ohlins shocks. They are not the same. For the rest of you that means that in Bob's shocks the oil and gas mix, while in mine they are kept apart. So regardless of brand the separated type of shock will/should give a better quality ride than the mixed variety.
Ohlins also make remote reservoir shocks which in theory should give yet better performance still. So we can see that Ohlins (and no doubt other brands as well) offer at least three quality (and price) levels. Bob has the cheapest Ohlins, I have the middle priced ones. Mine are great! I don't feel the need to try any others.
GRB; I asked Howard about that and he said there is no difference in ride between the shocks I got and those costing 3 times as much. The only difference would be if you were working the shocks exceptionally hard such as riding dirt roads for long distances or racing at high speeds. I try to avoid both those activities on my touring bike.
I'm not knocking Ohlins shocks. They are a very good shock and it's very possible most people would not see a difference between them, Works, or Ricor shocks. Now you and I are clearly **** about the suspension on our bikes so we do notice. You might find, with your preference toward Ohlins, the Ohlins shocks to be superior.
I also factor in customer support and I'm not going to rehash my experience with Motorcyclemetal.com other than to say I prefer the way Ricor does business, their customer support, and their return policy. Motorcyclemetal does not have a money back return policy. Once ordered; you bought it regardless of how much you may like them or not. In fairness; MM will try to fix them but you must pay the postage both ways for each attempt. If you are out West; that's another $20 toward the cost of the shocks each time.

I have followed this post for a couple of days now, and since it has come down to a comparison of customer support experiences with MotorcycleMetal.com I want to weigh in. I had an exceptionally gratifying experience with MotorcycleMetal.com over the course of a year as I fitted out my '06 StreetBob with dual Brembo Brakes. I have posted about the difference that modification made and won't go into it here. Suffice it to say I found MotorcycleMetal.com competent, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to develop what was then a prototype for a modification on braking power. Given the success of that project I subsequently bought a pair of Ohlins 36PRCLB fully adjustable shocks with separate reservoir. I have been amazed at the difference between the ride quality they provide and the 3 previous shocks I had(OEM, YKK and Progressive 440's). I have no experience with Ricor but can recommend the Ohlins unequivocally.
This is one person's experience with the product(Ohlins) and the customer support(MotorcycleMetal.com). Jay

Yes he was rather sharp with me via a PM (not directly on the forum) on my very first post when I made reference to our Sporty products on another forum. I would have to agree he knows what he is talking about and can be somewhat “guff” at times with forum members. It is what it is, and most of us on the forum recognize that by now. Not that big of a deal, we are all different and respond to perceived attacks differently.. but gotta admit it is fun to read at times and perhaps is some of his motivation, they keep what he is doing with his business on top, and our also when he reference us. It is just business.
Bottom line.. we believe we have the best IAS equipped shock available. No one can reach back and make adjustments to those types of shocks that have adjustable rebound and compression settings to changing road conditions faster than a 3rd generation IAS equipped shock can, as it will change automatically, on the fly to anything you encounter. We offer a money back guarantee if YOU do not believe the shock you purchased from us does not give you a better ride experience than whatever you are using now.. Ohlin, Wiburs or any other high end shock that is available. Please let me know if anyone else offers that kind of money back guarantee. I recognize that those who have already upgraded to a conventional performance shock would be reluctant to buy ours as what they have is an improvement over what Harley offers from the factory. Be happy with your shocks and support the company or individual who modified them for you. Not a problem.
Yes we have offered steep discounts to those who post regularly (and not just on this forum or type of bike) who wanted to do a comparison analysis for us. A lot better bang for the buck than putting an ad in a motorcycle magazine about a product line not many Bike Riders have heard of and I am not the least bit ashamed for using that avenue of marketing. We are still a small R&D company that reserves the right to continually make improvements in our product line.
Want the BEST SHOCK available? Give us a try. You may have to wait a bit to get them as we do not have anything off the shelf waiting for an order, and have to order some parts we need from other suppliers (mainly springs) then build them to your specifications. We guarantee you will be satisfied and will work through any minor issues you may have in setting up your ride correctly.
