Default New speedo/tach issue

Added the combo Digital speedometer/analog tach (74723-10) to my 2010 FXDC. Everything works fine except the Low Fuel warning lamp never turns off. When I installed the tach I had 1/2 tank of fuel. Went and filled it up and then ran that tank down to a little under 1/2 tank before filling it up again. Ran that tank down to the red area on my fuel gauge, and filled up again today. I don't rely on that light anyway, so its not a big deal other than being annoying. Any ideas? Think disconnecting the battery briefly might help?

Thanks

You could be right: fill up the tank, disconnect the battery for a while and run the initialization procedure once more....Here's a note from the instruction sheet;

Initialization
After installing the new gauge, the vehicle should receive a full
tank of fuel in order to properly initialize the fuel range (miles
to empty) functionality.
During consumption of the first full tank of fuel, the gauge
software will begin the process of learning your riding patterns,
eventually tailoring the fuel range calculations to your unique
riding characteristics.
NOTE
After filling the fuel tank, the range function will not update until
the vehicle resumes normal speeds.

I thought initially that the low-level light might have been a mechanical thing - when the float in the tank gets to a certain level it operates a switch and turns that light on. However I've since decided its a calculated thing - mine comes on when the range reading goes to 25 miles.

Did you get the range reading down that low?

My low fuel light comes on at about 35 I think. When it gets down to ten it stops showing range and just says low fuel or something like that.

Disconnecting the battery for approx 5 minutes did nothing. I just put a small square of elec tape over the lamp so I wouldn't have to look at it all the time. It shows "Low" on the panel even though there is a full tank of fuel and has done this since I installed the unit. Maybe it will work itself out. Next time I'm at the stealership, which isn't very often, I'll ask someone if they know the secret. Other than the lamp issue, I like the unit. Easy to read, looks good, and I love having a tach again.

I'm having the same EXACT issue.

Filled the tank, as per the instructions, immediately then rode it for about a hundred miles, re-filled the tank and -- Nothing.

I'm thinking maybe if I let it run down to really low fuel or......??

Whatever. Has this issue resolved itself. Would like to know.

Thanks.

I ordered and installed this speedo as per the instructions, including filling the tank to initialize fuel data, but the fuel light was on, and fuel remaining was 'Lo'. I ran the tank to empty then filled up and the light remained on, and decided to take it to the dealer. I was told that the programming was up to date, and to simply run a few more tanks of fuel through it. Three fill ups later the light was still on, so I took it in again, this time the ordered and installed a new speedo citing an internal failure causing the problem. The light was off and fuel remaining was accurate as soon as I picked up the bike, and continues to function properly. Unfortunately the same resolution may be required for all of these units, but at least it works.

If your speedo's fuel warning lamp never turns off, then it's defective. H-D will replace the unit at no charge. Order a replacement speedo through your dealer. The usual 90-day time limit does not apply in this case. Speaking from experience...

Dealer checked it out and replaced it under warranty a couple of months ago.
