Try running the motor at 2600-2800 rpms when criusin' instead of 2000...it should run alot smoother. IMO, runnin' at 2000 is still too low. The TC motor likes to spin.
Gottcha, I'll keep it in that range and see how it feels. At those RPM's around town I won't get out of 3rd gear.
Just thought I would give a quick update. Took the bike out last night with the new tach and it seemed to really help me knowing exactly what rpm the bike was at. As long as I kept the rpms about 2 grand no noise but as soon as they dropped to 1900-1800 the ticking/pinging would start. So, definately running the motor over 2 g's from now on.
Your were killing your motor! Keep the revs up around 2500-3500. That is unless you want to rebuild your engine in the next few thousand miles.
I think you are being way too dramatic with that. It won't kill a motor to run like that, just not living up to it's potential, or running it efficiently. I would imagine better gas mileage would also be a result of running it in the sweet spot as well.
Pinging when you roll hard on the throttle is called a spark knock and it's because you're running too lean. With a power commander and modified exhaust/air intake, go get a good dyno tune and you'll stop pinging... You can add all the oil additives you want or run at whatever rpm you want, but that won't fix your problem.
