Default How to check oil pressure switch with multimeter?

Anyone know ow to check the oil pressure switch on 2007 WideGlide with a multimeter? I'm not getting any reading, but not sure if I'm doing it right.

When you said you are not getting a reading, what do you mean? Do you mean the light doesn't come on when you turn the ignition on? Do you have an oil pressure gauge or light? If it is a light, the oil pressure switch should be one single wire, just ground it and the light should go on, if it doesn't check the bulb. I really don't know the resistance on the switch, you probably need a Dyna electrical manual.

The oil pressure light does not come on ever. It's supposed to be on when the ignition is on, but go off after engine is started. Mine never comes on, so it appears something is out. Thought I'd check the oil pressure switch first.

So you're saying, if I take a wire, stick it in the oil pressure switch wire hole, and ground it to the frame or a bolt on the engine, the light should come on? Because it's not. I just tried.

the switch itself should just be open/close open= no pressure. use continuity/and look for no resistance.

I could be backwards on the open = no pressure.

Easiest way to check is at the light. Check the light leads for voltage with switch off, then turn on the switch and you should get voltage, if that happens the light is bad, if not, the pressure switch is bad.

This seems like an easy idea, but it's an LED panel, not an individual bulb.

What year is it?
Even the LED panels have 2 wires going to each LED, it's not a sealed panel unit as far as I can tell from the wiring diagrams.

Ground the oil pressure switch wire, if the light doesn't come on, you have a problem. Either the light bulb is out or the wiring between the pressure sending unit and gauge. Riding without the oil warning light is not a good idea, must fix!

Default He asked how to test the switch

testing the switch with a multimeter, I'm wondering that also. & if the switch could be wearing out before i yank my cam plate out. My light goes on n off with the rpms. So think oil pump is wearing out. Does anyone know (with the dash light style on 02 touring) do these lights go on when hi and low pressure? Or is it only when oil pressure drops below a certain PSI
