Default Not Impressed with the 103" kit

So I was out riding with my Brother-in-Law the other and he was on his 2011 Heritage with the 103"kit. We came around a corner from a stop and we both got on our bikes and his pulled hard on me but i soon started catching up and by the time i got beside him he just let off. I have a 2006 Street Bob with a stage 1 set up (AC/V&H Big shots and stage 1 DL) otherwise a stock 88". Well after seeing the scenario of how close it seemed to me, we got on a straight away and did a rolling run from 1st gear, once again the Heritage pulled hard but when we hit 3rd gear my front tire was just behind his front tire, i then hit 4th and started pulling on him, then 5th came and i was in front of him with his front tire just behind mine. We both have been riding for several years (4wheelers, dirt bikes, street bikes) so were pretty equal on riding abilities.

I just figured I'd share that, Cause you'ld think that bike would have killed me. Now on the otherhand a club brother of my has a 06' Deluxe with a 110 and I dont even stand a chance in hell next to him he gets into the meat of his cams(dont know what they are) and its insane how hard he pulls away in a race..

I would imagine that the cams could make a big difference. If he kept the stock cams, he won't really pick up any top end power. I know you say the riding abilities are equal, but it sounds like he is shifting too soon.

There are many factors involved, weight and gearing just to name a few. More cubes are always better if built right, if you don't get the setup correct you're just spending money.

Does anyone know anything yet about the 2012 Switchback. Comes stock with the 103. Out of curiosity, what are the specs on a stock 103?

Yea, that is true with the weight and it being a softail, but the deluxe is the same bike just without saddlebags... THe Heritage had a Screamin' Eagle street legal 103" kit put in so that wouldnt void his warranty. All in all I just figured that it would have been a bigger difference.

The factory is claiming 100 TQ on the 103"s. But they're measuring it at the crank. It's probably putting 80 ft.lbs. at the rear wheel. I just saw a guy from Mean City Cycles dyno a 2011 103" on here a couple of days ago, and stock it was putting 65 HP to the ground. The 110" is only putting about 75 HP to the rear wheel as well. None of them perform very well in stock form. Add a set of cams and possibly some headwork and you're talking. But nothing from the factory impresses me about their engines.

MY 103 came alive when I went to SE255 cams, 'Ness intake, de-gutted head tube and Klock mufflers on a FuelMoto/PC-V tuner.

Damn thing moves for a bagger.

Larger volume of hot air = increased performance. One of the biggest fallacies that exists - just look at Congress. Within a certain range increasing megapixels actually decreases quality of your pictures - totally marketing. So is most of this. Unless you spend real money on R&D redesigning intakes/cams/exhausts, etc., just watch as all of sudden you can't figure out why your market share is decreasing. Say what? - good point, the Auto/Steel/Computer industries were completely different; same thing will never happen to HD. Cheers, Kevin.
