In my opinion, yes, it's absolutely worth it. Especially when you're looking for lower 1/4-mile times. Of course a big-bore isn't very costly, either, but you'll have to cam it either way.

Check this out: http://www.fuelmotousa.com/cams.htm (scroll down, and check the dyno sheets on the 96")

What tuner are you running on that bike?

You'll get a nice bump in hp and tq doing the cams, but after reading your post it sounds like it may be just a stepping stone. If you're thinking about increasing the displacement and doing some work to the heads, I'd suggest doing it all at once and saving yourself some money since the cams you'd pick for the 88" will likely be different than the ones in a bigger motor.

And when you're done, please post your time-slips! I'm so tired of dyno sheets. Show us some numbers that actually mean something in the real world!

Dynos are only nominally more exciting than treadmills.

+1 on bigdaddy... make an all for one project... also, get rid of those pipes and get yourself a 2 into 1. Will increase your torque significantly ... its not all about top speed its also how quickly you can you can get her goin'. Are you wanting a hot rod to rip at the track and show off at your local bar or a nice aggressive daily rider? Some guy make that differentiation ...
My suggestion is to go for it, jump in with both feet... you'll love it.
Also, my 2 cents is to call Tman and let him know what you're loomin for, how you like to ride, your end goal and such... he put me on a perfect setup for mine in my opinion... helped me the entire way.

Good luck with the build and let us know how it goes...

Most cams have a later closing intake valve which bleeds off compression, it will be a little softer on the bottom but on a light Dyna it isn't too bad. I did cams only but later on I pulled the heads for porting and a .030HG for a compression bump. T Man has a new TR600SM that looks pretty good but if you don't ever plan on pulling the heads the Cycle Rama 575 would be a good one, it has a 35* IVC. http://www.harley-riders-guide.com/h...dson-cams.html

yes on cams no matter what else you do it will wake up your motor significantly. (or at least pull your *** off of the seat and nearly off the bike.. fun fun fun.).

Yeah, you can do cams without headwork but you just won't get the most out of that upgrade.

I am running cams (Wood TW6-6) in an otherwise stock 2007 96" WG. Is it the fastest bike in the neighborhood? Nope. Does it perform much better than stock? Yup. My output is listed in my sig.

I did the swap myself, and spent $500-$600 including the cams which I got used from a forum member for around $200. There is some mild headwork in my future. Bump compression to ~10:1, port/polish for better flow. Probably another $500 in that.
