i have a 2011 street bob i put on the vance and hines short shots. im looking at the programmers/tuners. i want one that is just plug in and im done. im not looking for one that needs to be fiddled with to make the bike run good. i need some advise. thanks in advance for the help.
I have a Terry components TV3. My mechanic recommended it because we live in the mountains and we go up and down in altitude a lot very quickly. I have Bubs exhaust and a SE heavy breather; TV3 unit works great. Unless your going to build a 120 ci fire breather from hell this will work . The wiring harnesses are all done in house now and the unit just works. i have not thrown one problem code or had even one hiccup since putting this unit on. I have traveled up and down from sea level to 9000 feet. Runs no problems.
I run the accell slm it works good no problems to date, good milage, and plenty of seat of the pants power. If you are going for radical work later though this wont work. I have changed pipes twice and air cleaner three times it has always recalibrated itself.
If you are just sticking with pipes and a breather all you really need is a fuel enricher. Xieds or a fuel pak are cost effective. If you are planning cams then I would go with an auto-tune system. It's constantly self-adjusting and seem to be a top notch system. Contact fuel MOTO. Their rep speaks for itself and his advice would be considered gospel rather than a few guys opinions in a free forum. And how long does it take to send a pm. Jmo
forum sponsor carlisle designs swears by his new cobra auto tune unit. If you want an updated version of the Terry / Accel unit you might check this out before making a choice. I still like my unit fine , but choices are always good.
yeah i plan on sticking to the pipes and air cleaner. no motor work for this bike. ill check out those other tuners. thanks for the info. i heard those xieds are bad for the bike. something about they send the wrong signals back to the pcm and arent nearly as effective as say the fuel moto.
Call Fuel Moto and talk to them. If you are going to get a programer buy a good one to start with. Fuel Moto is a dyno shop so you would get a good map from them to start with. Then if you make any changes you can call them for a new map. I was going to ride my bike with just exhaust and ac. I just changed cams and my Fuel Pak would not work at idle. One call to FuelMoto and they got it right the first time.

Therein lies the problem. They need to be fiddled (dyno'd) with to make the bike run good.
If you buy an SE unit it can't be used on any other bike. I have a TMax with autotune feature. It can be taken out and used on a different bike. If you change or modify the motor this one will still work. With Autotune it will dial in the map according to the way you ride. If you go to the mountains it will adjust to keep you in the sweet spot of the fuel map. Rather than rendering your O2 sensors useless, this comes with better O2's. Check the tuner forum. It all depends on what you want to spend and what your future plans are.
