Replacing rear brake pads? - 11 FXDWG
I bought new pads to replace my rears but don't have the proper tool to remove the pin. From what I can gather, it is a 6mm 12 point socket...that I don't have. Manual says nothing but to loosen it. Before I go chasing around for one, I wanted to ask on here if anyone has changed theirs yet and what you used?????
How else ya gonna get the inner pad off???

No...Because I'm blind as a freakin' bat (and stupid), I got talked into buying another set of sockets with SAE & metric universal sockets and a fancy new style handle because it was the only thing in the store with a 6 mm 12 point. Get it home and the set only goes down to 8 mm....
but of course, 1/4" is the same and surely, they had an individual socket....the price of impatience.

I changed my rear brake pads last Thursday without removing the wheel. Guess I should have read the manual...

The 1/4" socket is .014" bigger than the 6mm and you will end up stripping the socket and or the pins. If you do strip the pins you can disassemble the caliper by removing the three 10mm 12pt bolts and prying the back off of the caliper so you can get at the pin then use a vise grip to unscrew the pins. Also use a high quality 1/4" drive socket some of the 3/8 drive sockets won't fit in the counter bore and you will have to grind it down, been there.
