wow ... looks great. Personally I wouldn't want to lose the extra fuel capacity ... but man it does look cool! Can't wait to see the bike when it is finished.

Which wheels will you be running.

Yeah, I'm a bit wary of the distance loss too... but then I figure I'll just make it up with my next bike. Since i kept it so I can swap back to old tank, I plan to dish the sides of the old one Indian Larry style so I have a cool distance tank around too.

21x3 front 18x5.5 back from Landmark Mfg. fat 40 spokes...
metzler me880s

I'm debating 5 degree rake added too, but might wait on that particular modification.

Hope this gives you some hope Gartec, it can be done and don't worry about Harley saying the sporty fuel pump won't work... it is a champ.

yeah looks good. so i just buy the pump? what has to be done to connect the pump to the dyna fuel system. how does that all work?

There are two big hassles with this swap, the fuel pump flange and the backbone tunnel.

If you're handy with a welder or have someone that will do it for you, they can just cut out the existing tunnel and rebuild it square to fit the Dyna backbone OR you can do it Roland Sands style and build an adapter piece that goes over the backbone, is round on the top, and sporty tank fits the adapter.

The cutting and welding you can't avoid is the flange. you have to cut out a space for that then weld in the flange. can get that from a wrecked efi sporty tank or www.zombieperformance.com has them for $50 bones.

The wires are slightly different from Dyna to Sporty, so a wiring diagram would help to make sure each is connected as it needs to be to run the sporty fuel pump. the two are different colors which sucks!

it's definitely not an easy job swapping them out... that's why you don't see it.

40 Spoke Fatties are going to look real nice. Always loved the fat spokes! Keep this thread up to date with your progress.

What paint scheme do you have planned?

they're not the super fat like mammoth or ridewrite, but bigger than usual.

paint is getting done as we speak by Scott at thebackstreetbucket.blogspot.com
70's style... just letting him do his thing.
