Should I rework my Stock 40mm CV Carb with CVP stuff or swap to a Mikuni 42HSR?

I've had the Mikuni 42 on my '01 FXD from very early on, originally with slip ons and SE cams. Now it has gear drive cams and slip ons.
People told me I wasted my money, it would not stay in tune, it would suck at higher elevations, so on and so forth. None of that has been true, throttle response is great, has never required tuning and runs a very flat air/fuel ratio.
I believe it came from Sudco and was set up very close out of the box. I'd get the same carb again, in fact I did on a '05 XL1200 and again with excellent results.
