Default upgrading 96" to 106" w/cams

next week going to tear down the 2007 FXDWG and upgrade my stock 96" to S&S 106" w/S&S 551 easy start cams, already have thundermax ecu w/auto tune and a BuB 2 into 1 exhaust. What should I expect as far as increase in performance and milage to the tank full? Should I go ahead and buy a Barrent lock up clutch? Any input will be welcome!

please let me know how the 551 runs in the 106. I had the 583 in my 106 and pulled it out due to valve train noise and heat. Tried everything to quiet it down and changed cam as last ditch effort before tearing motor down and it worked. actually liked the TQ better in the S&S cam as opposed to the Woods 777. I would think you will be mid to high 80s in HP and 110-115TQ with stock heads. My 583 made 93 HP and 115 tq. I just added the Barnett HD clutch spring and clutch seems ok. S&S advised me away from the 551 with my kit due to possible detonation with the 10-1 compression.

K. I have the 106 kit on my bike,with tw6-6 cams.
My bike makes 107hp/115tq.
Torque hits 100 at 2200/2300rpms,I can't remember exactly.
I ran it for 1000 miles before it was dynotuned. Since tuning it gets 50mpg on the highway.
In the city I tend to twist wrist pretty hard so I can't really comment on city mileage.
My bike is a completely different animal now. And those hp/tq figures are at the rear wheel.
I dont know what your cams are made for but as I researched for my bike I learned that the increase in cubes will add enough bottom end torque so a cam that makes mid to high rpm power is favorable. In my application I couldn't be happier. I'm using a pc-v for tuning.

Oh. As far as clutch mine hasn't shown any signs of slipping after 10000 miles and I'm using a v&h propipe for exhaust.
Your numbers will be similar to mine however the auto-tune seems to richen up the a/f from what I have seen so mileage may vary. You will be able to adjust you ratios though.
I suggest running a lean in the cruising rpms to help mileage. Your in motion so heat isn't an issue, maybe from 2000-3000 rpms have those values set leaner while in closed loop.
Just a thought.

the 551 is not a HP cam and will not prduce results like Shredding Rubbers 6-6. Just dont go into it thinking your going to get 100HP and be happy with the TQ you get down low. good luck and keep us updated.

I think the S&S 570 might be a better cam for you.

About the clutch, I'm running stock clutch with SE spring and VP84t variable pressure, works like a charm

Thanks so far for the info, I am looking for torque not so much horses, the dyna is my daily rider around town and for 150 mile rides.Talked twice to S&S tech and they thought the 551 cams with easy start would suit me, my cvo bikes all have se255 cams and they are great for those bikes. My big dog w/S&S 145" is the hot rod its detuned to 160 hp and 160# torque so when i want to scare the hell out of myself and check my strength of my grip to hang on I ride it! Its stupid fast and torquey!

Default update on upgrade

picked up the bike this saturday with the mods , had to update my map on the thundermax tuner with autotune.Sure was easy thing to do with the thundermax connected the cable linked the laptop to the tuner downloaded the map,did the auto idle calibration .Took the bike on a 250 mile break in ride outside temp was 100-104 bike never missed a beat ! I could really tell the auto tuner was working as the bike was changing as I rode it . Pretty amazing tuner,I can really tell I have alot more torque from 1500-4500 rpm and it is really stronger on the top end. Going to put a total of 500 miles on it then change the oil and filter and check the tolerances and change oil to syn3 as we put dino oil for break in.Overall real happy with my bang for the buck.

Would you mind sharing your base map listing number?
