Default Anybody heard this before??

I was talking to a mechanic i was thinking of getting to some engine work on my 06 dyna and he said that the 06 and 07s are a weeker engine then past twin cams. He said that they are good stock and ok up to 100 HP and TQ, and that if you want to go big that you need to do alot more to it than on older models. I have never heard this and was wondering if anybody could shed light on this. Thanks

Maybe the 07's but don't lump us odd ball 06 6-speed 88's in with that group[8D]. I did hear that about the new 96's but not the 88's. New news to me.

We have a top notch V Twin shop up here in MN, V-Tech Motorsports. They have had both the 88 and the 96 torn down and both motors are extremely robust. They have built the 96 to over 130hp and 120ft/lbs of TQ with no issues. What you were told is BS.

Starting with the 2004 models, I believe, Harley abandoned the tried and true tapered Timken sprocket side crank bearings. The setup they have used since is substantially weaker and there have been failures on built engines. Of course the chain driven cams have been a serious weak point on all Twin Cams, along with the balancer on the Softails.

I thought what i was hearing was kinda strange, iwas under the impression that the twin cam has been harleys best engine as far as upgrading for increased HP.

I am suprised though, this guy is a certified HD mechanic and is pretty well known as a quality guy that builds good engines. Just goes to show you that the old saying is true " opinions are like **** holes everybodys got one"
