Default Forward vs Mid Controls better for low back pain sufferer?

Looking at picking up a Fat Bob. I have low back pain from an old disc herniation. Because I can't really try out the riding position (much less ride) on a Fat Bob with mid controls, I'd like to hear from anyone who also has back pain and the effect that mid vs forward controls has on it. FWIW - I am about 5' 11" tall with a 32 inch inseam. Thanks.

Both. I have midpack muscular pain from a car crash years ago. I added mid pegs to go with my forwards on my Dyna, plus a Mustang seat with detachable backrest and I'm good to go.

That sounds like a good idea - didn't know you could have both. Happen to have any photos of that setup?

I have mids on my 2011 Dyna and I am in the market for forward controls but I am not going to remove the mids. With low back pain the more options the better.

@Warprints.

I don't have experience with the back issues or the dual peg setup, however, a different thread has some photos for you.

One degenerative disc, 3 bulging here. I use mid-controls with highway pegs. I will say I am on the mid-controls 80% of the time, the upright position is much easier on my back

Mids will be easier on your back than forwards because of less pressure.

I've had both, and I would say there isn't much difference as far as my back was concerned. Seat and bars are what is going to make a difference.

Yeah, they keep the back more upright for sure. I only stretch out on the highway pegs when I start to get a little hip pain/cramping on long rides.

2 blown disc and surgery here. I have to have 2 postitions to go back and forth. My right leg constantly cramps up because of my back...If I only had one position I would be out of luck.

Mids w/freeway pegs and a quality seat with back support
