Clutch Adjustment
I'm doing the 20,000 mile service on my 2007 FXD. My question is about adjusting the clutch:
Is there a reason why I have to do it at 20,000 miles? The reason I'm asking is, it doesn't seem to need adjusting... the free-play is normal, takeup is normal. Everything about it seems perfectly normal.
I don't mind doing it, it's really easy, and I'll have the derby cover off anyway to change the primary oil.
I just don't get why I need to do it if it feels normal...

Would you not change the oil because it feels normal? The clutch can feel fine but still needs to be adjusted internally. It doesn't have much to do with it feeling right because of the cable adjustment. You have to adjust the cable anyways when your done so you can get it the same place you like it.
Make sure you do it cold....

Just did mine yesterday and like you I didn't think it needed to be done but now the clutch seems to "work" better.
Probally just my imagination, but it's no big job and I was already in the primary oil change out anyway.
