Default Desperately need to fix buffeting! 1/4 fairing

Bad buffeting anything over 40mph, progressively worse as speeds go up, almost unbearable after 65mph. It does't shake my head too bad, but sounds like a helicopter is next to me and gives me a bad head ache.

I need to fix this ASAP, I do 100's of miles a week, often around 80mph for extended periods. Looking for some help and things to try, thanks!

Some info...

2001 FXDX with an HD 1/4 fairing with a laminar lip.
I'm 5'7"
I wear a fullface helmet, cheap HJC.
I've had it with and without the laminar, fairing tilted all the way forward and all the way back. Tilted back towards me is a little better than forward, but not much.

If I cross my arm it also helps a little, but not totally. There is a lot of wind in my helmet, so it feels like its coming more underneath than anything? The only next thing I can think of is to try a different helmet, but that's not cheap...any advice? Thanks!

Move it up or down. You are in the turbulent zone...The wind is coming over and hitting you square in the helmet. I would suggest down if you can. I have had this issue on three bikes. The way to fix it for me is get my head above the wind stream. You can't get your head below it with these small fairings...For what it's worth, we are the same height. I have ZERO buffeting with my Rifle. It is so quiet behind it, I am thinking of adding a stereo system of some kind...I planned to buy the one Powder Pros sells but that is not going to happen now...

Since you're wearing a full face, getting your helmet above the "protected" area shouldn't be a problem. The fairing will still keep the wind off your chest, allowing you to relax more than with no fairing.

thanks guys, ill look at that thread.

good news is, I wore a smaller leather jacket today because it was a little warmer (my warm jacket is a little too big for me) and its not gone, but it is better.

now to get rid of it all together...
