cking with the experts.Dyna Super Glide
A friend found a Dyna Super Glide for sale and asked me what I Thought.
I have a Bagger and don't really have any opinion on this bike, so I am checking with the experts.
2000 Dyna Super Glide FXDX, 6100 miles, pipes air box and new bars,$6500.
Is it worth the look, my gut says yes...

I'm no expert, but I'll try and help. Make sure it's not a salvage title. Test ride it. If unsure, pay a mechanic to inspect it. KBB trade in value here:

With a trade in value of $7305, I would be suspicious. I suspect salvage title (repaired), but some states will issue a clean title after a wrecked bike has been repaired. If you can do a title history search, do it. Sounds too good to be true.
Go to ebaymotors.com, motorcycles, harley-davidson, dyna, on the left hand side check the completed listings box (need ebay account) then sort by model year. I suspect prices will be higher that what you are quoted for this bike.
Be careful. You only spend the money once.

That bike would sell for nine or ten thousand dollars here in the Houston area (assuming it's in good condition).

Thanks Guys,
I was thinking that it sounded to good to be true did a couple of searches and came up with a $7500 (12,500 miles)to $9500 based on milage.
He was going to look at it, the ad says "its in almost new condition". He added a hyper charger, V&H, jetted, saddle bags, and new bars. I guess we'll see what "almost new condition" means.

I would go and look at it, but I would be suspicious of any 'stories'. If it were me, I would pay for a title search. On the bright side, for some reason this model does not sell for it's full value much of the time. I have seen many ebay auctions where the fxdx was undervalued for some reason. I guess it has limited appeal. If it's a good title (one or two owner, or not salvaged) I would jump on the price. Gotta ask yourself why this guy is selling it. If he is buying another HD I would run away. He probably could get more at the dealer than what he is offering your buddy. Try and find out where it was serviced. You might be able to go there and ask about the history of the bike.
I would be triple double careful on this purchase, but I would look at it. If you go to look at it, and the bike is not there, I would suspect scam.

Make sure the VIN on the frame and engine match also.

87,000 miles ago, I bought a 2000Super Glide, it has a 42 mm Mikuni, 203 cams, cycle shack slip onsand a SE ignition; it has given mevirtually trouble free reliability ~ I park it in the garage when I'm not out riding. After 87,000 miles it doesn't have quite the pull and only uses about a quart of amsoil every 3,000 miles; I'd like a 6th gear and a touch more pull but above all I sure am attached to reliability, so here is my question: Is there any reason I shouldn't expect another good 5 or 6 solid years of reliabilityif I go with the 95 ci top end, convert to gear driven cams, new and heavier clutch and a baker 6 speed transmission?

I have picked up a few cars cheap from owners who get a quote from a dealer for their trade-in and then sell it for that price on their own trying to give someone else a deal instead of letting the dealer turn it around for a profit.
That price might be all the dealer would give them on trade-in.
