Dyna Passenger backrest modification
Has anyone run into the situation where the seat space on your Dyna is just too cramped? In the 14 years I've owned and ridden my FXD, I've grown. Probably not a good thing, but hey I'm over 50 and I'm fat! I'm 6'- 4" and now weigh about 280 lbs. Most people say the bike is too small for me and I should just suck it up and buy a bigger bike, but I like my bike. I've extended out my forward controls by two inches and I've added an extended reach seat. But as I've grown, my poor wife has lost available real-estate on the back seat. The final straw was when I upgraded her backrest to the larger Harley Passenger pad 51132-98. This is more like the larger backrests you see on either Soft tails or Touring models. Finally, a decent backrest. We went for a long ride and realized that the new rest pushed her forward, which pushed me up onto the tank. Not a good thing. After searching the Internet for days, I couldn't find any options to modify the backrest. I finally decided to have a new set of Rigid Mount Side Plates to move the backrest back further. Drew up the design, handed it over to a local metal shop with a water jet, three days later, I had a new set of brackets. I mounted them up and we have even more room than I've ever had. Problem solved.
I have to believe someone else has this problem out there!

I did the same thing on our wide glide.
Ours are the rigid mount. I just added more metal to the front portion and cut the rear part and drilled new holes. I did add slots to where the wiring went through to make it easier to remove if I needed to.
