Is this right? , my bike has been at the shop for 3 weeks now due to an inner cam bearing failure, anyway needs a complete rebuild but this is another story, When I called to get a status update on my bike the service advisor tells me it will be another 2 weeks because the mechanic working on my bike is on holidays for the next 2 weeks, so I tell them put another tech on it, they insist they don't want to put another tech on it and are offering me a loaner bike, then I speak to the service manager and he informs me that they took my starter to help out another biker from out of town to help him out and will install a new one on my bike, I then tell him I am ok with helping a stranded biker but what happened to the courtesy call and ask me if it was ok to take a part from my bike without asking. what do you guys think?
I agree..a least a call to let you know....as far as the tech being out, maybe he is the only one qualified enough? I don't know..but I would want it explained why. Just my two cents.
I agree with Robbie13. I would also go down and see my bike and talk face to face with a manager or owner and hear the story from the horse's mouth. I don't know the circumstances but your bike should have been done by now. If they don't give you a satisfactory answer trailer your bike home and send them a bill for your headache, starter and not finishing the job.
i agree...pretty crappy to just take stuff off your bike without asking. and how tough is it to change an inner primary bearing? how could you be a harley tech if you don't know how to change those?
Well it was an inner cam bearing failure that took out the oil pump, cams , and damaged the crankshaft, basically a complete bottom end rebuild. I opted for a rebuild as it was cheaper than a crate motor, and I would get the new SE cam plate with hyd tensioners, SE cams and the better full needle bearings for the cams also the SE oil pump all for 1100.00 less than a crate.
my view on the starter is that it was theft when taken without my permission or knowledge, granted I will get a new starter but that is not the point here.
all bullshit aside for even a dealer too do such a act is considered theft in a legall view. The only tech bullshit,,, more like the starters out off stock and awaiting for restock,, REport this incident with your relivant gov authority , get a lawyer too contact them , whatever you do don't bend over and take it up the ****, THEY cant take parts off your bike too resell too another third party THEFT.

I could not believe the service manager actually said to me that he charged this person new price for my 2002 starter and they ordered a new one to replace mine.
The bottom end was sent out to a machine shop, all the tech has to do is re-assemble the motor

I agree they should have let you know that the tech was going to be away and should've asked before taking a part off your bike. But if they are offering you a loaner, I would take it and ride the crap out of it
