metzler rubber
Ok I tried a search back seems its not functioning on this end.Anyway mind is kinda foggy.I know I posted last fall on going bigger rubber in rear. The metzler 160 is more narrower then the 160 dunlop I had 2 of them and on the metz which is darn near gone.Be getting ready to ride here in a few wks I am hoping so be needing a tire I am guessing within 1k miles.
Rehashing things here but is anybody using the 170 metz on rear along with the metz 880 front? There is no 180 metz as far as I can find in metz? Also from what I recall there is no need for the tire kit. I am hoping the 170 will be bout the same width of the dunlop 160.

Those Roadtech's in that link are apparently radials.
Everyone (including Metzeler) sez that it's a no-no to put radials on
spoke-wheels that require a tube.
Does anyone know why this is bad? I know people who do it and was
wondering if there was a REAL reason for not doing it or if it was just BS.

I sent email to the guys at Metzeler last night and got an answer back pretty quick.
Their FAQ said it was bad to put the tube in a radial. Evidently that has changed. He apologized for not updating the info and sent me the latest version of their brochure that talked about it.
I'm paraphrasing, but it says something like as long as you are using a Metzeler tube it should be okay.
So, seeing as how i needed a new rear tire anyway. I decided to try it out for myself. A local shop sold me a 170/60R17 Marathon ME880. i've only put about 30 miles on it (my commute to work) but so far it feels pretty different. i think i like it.
06dynablack is the one who "sold" me on Metz. In 15 years of Harleys I've always used Dunlops. they're kinda expensive, but even without wearing them in completely i'm already impressed with the contact patch. hopefully they'll wear ok too.

hey skully are you running a new front metz then also or still the dunlop.clearance no issues correct? Also is the width in 170 bout same as 160 dunlop? Takes a few miles for em to scuff in but once you get used to it Idont think you will go back to dunlops.
just got a metz 170/60 me 880 love the feel. just wish they made a 180/60...

No. Dunlop on front still. outta $$$ for this month.
No clearance problems, but i think a 180 might be tighter than .... well, something tight.
70 miles on it now, it's doing good.
