Default Security System--lights keep flashing

During the cold weather I've been keeping my fob in the house--out of range of the bike in the garage. But...., if you jiggle the bike a bit so the lights flash, as they are supposed to do for a number of seconds, they keep flashing. They don't stop till I go in the house, get the fob and get close to the bike in the garage. This has happened several times during the winter. And something it did today was to flash the lights after I slightly disturbed the bike without the fob in range like it has been doing BUT after maybe 20-25 seconds of flashing it stopped flashing--for maybe 15 seconds then started flashing again and I waited a while but I think the lights would have kept flashing forever (or at least till the battery ran down).

Supposed to rain tomorrow, not sure about Tuesday, but when I can I think I'm just gonna ride it in to the dealer and let them fool with it as I wouldn't know where to begin. And I have the Discount ESP so, who knows, maybe they may have to re-flash or replace the ECM ??? This is my 2016 RGU.

Just wondering if any of you have had this issue.

This sounds like normal operations, it should quit after about 2 minutes. A momentary bump will cause a short set of flashes but a long shake sets off the alarm. Otherwise you have an issue with the BCM as the security system is built into it.

Thank you for your info. I guess that every time my lights have flashed with my current and also my previous bike the flashes were the "short set of flashes" as you mentioned, likely due to a momentary bump. Couple of times this Winter when I might move the bike or something and forgot I started keeping the fob in the house this Winter and the lights started flashing maybe that was more of a "long shake" as you mentioned cause the lights would flash for what I considered much too long and I rushed to get the fob out of the house and close to the bike to stop the flashing lights. I'm going to try another "long shake" tonight, or tomorrow, to see if the lights will stop on their own after a couple of minutes. Thank you for your info.

And you mention I might have an issue with the BCM. If that is my problem, I wonder if a dealer is able to maybe "re-flash" a BCM, or would they just replace it? My Discount ESP should cover that if necessary, but, wondering again, would a re-flashed or replaced BCM cause me to have to re-load or do anything to my Vance & Hines FP3? My bike runs so good with the FP3 and other Stage 1 items installed by the previous owner I really don't want to mess with the FP3 if I can help it LOL.

Zan, this is a follow up to my previous reply. I started thinking, and wondering about what you said so I said hell with everything else I was in the middle of and went to the garage. OK, working the jack handle moved the bike upright and and that gave it the necessary "long shake" and the lights started flashing. I timed it. Actually, I timed it several times. After 6-8 minutes the lights stopped flashing. Also, when the lights are flashing the red security light in the speedo stays on, but, several times during the 6-8 minutes times the lights were flashing they would stop flashing, for about 8-9 seconds then start flashing again till they finished their 6-8 minute run time and, during the short duration when they stopped flashing, the red speedo light returned to its normal intermittent flashing. So, maybe the 6-8 minute run time on the lights after a "long shake" is normal, at least maybe on this bike. I will keep an eye on it.

I think you likely saved me some diagnostic time a dealer would have charged me and, maybe, you also saved me from buying some parts not really necessary. If we ever meet up the beers are on me.
Thanks again, Joe.

I’m sure my ‘03 is different, but it usually flashes for a minute or two, if I set it off. Sometimes it will go much longer, I’ll have to get my fob, turn it off, and on again. Then it will stop flashing. I consider it a reboot.

Yup, normal operation. If you had the siren it would chirp on the short and scream on the long.
