Default Starter issue

I wired up my Performance Machine starter button and hooked it to the switch where there is power on the first click (no lights) and I get nothing. On the second click (lights on) it turns over. Ideas?

Default Gave it some thought

I believe I figured out what is going on after some thought. Number 30 on the starter relay is not hot on the first click, it is hot on the second click. Relay works on control side with switch in either position but load side only works on second position.

When the bike came from the factory, the lights and ignition are energized in either position.

Someone has changed the wiring hook ups at the ignition switch.

There are probably half a dozen ways to wire up the ignition switch.

If you want the headlight to not be powered on one of the positions but still have ignition (old style setup), it is easy enough to do.

That's what I am trying to do but lost as just how to do it. My thoughts are to change the wire that runs from #30 on the relay to the current position on the switch(lights on) to the position on the switch that the lights are off.

Don`t bother messing with the relay, this is all about the connections between the ignition switch and the circuit breakers.

I post an illustration in a little bit.

Here is one way to wire up the ignition switch so you have control of the headlight.

You just need to eliminate the jumper wire between terminals B and C (red arrow).

My switch is like in the first illustration with a jumper going from c and d. No jumper between b and c.
