Default 06 88" tc tensioner question

I know this is pure laziness but I'm out of town at work so no pc to search. And I'm lazy, but on to th e question.

Is there a complete kit for the replacement of the cam chain tensioners , possibly with a decent streetable cam upgrade? .

Default chain tensioner upgrade

The harley dealer sells a complete kit for what you are wanting to do. it contains a new billet cam plate, a high volume oil pump and all the parts to convert your chain tensioner bike into a late model hydraulic tensioners. easy to install.. they cost 499.95. dsv

Of course you can install the upgrade kit (PN 25282-11) per the previous post, posted by a pro BTW. However, there are some with limited funds that have gone another route by replacing the OEM tensioner shoes with the CYCO tensioner shoes and retaining the OEM cam plate which actually is quite adequate for the application. There are several "bolt in" cam options like Andrews 26, SE203/204 and more; I happen to like the S&S 509 for a bolt in application in a TC88.

You will need to replace the outer cam bearings if you retain the OEM cam plate and I would suggest upgrading the inner cam bearings to the Torrington B148s.

There is also an oil pump upgrade for the early OEM cam plate from Drag Specialties.

Been both ways & they each work well. Here's a link for the Cyco shoes. You'll see it comes with an installation tool, hang on to it for future shoe changes.

You'll get more longevity out of the SE hydraulic shoes & the pumps a great addition (either way). All about wallet weight loss. The Crane 310-2's are another bolt in cams option.

On what do you base the claim that the OP will get more longevity out of the SE hydraulic shoes? I am not aware of any data to support that claim. As for the Crane 310-2 being a bolt in option but IIRC, it has an intake close of 36*; it will be soft on the bottom in an 88" motor. The S&S 509, on the other hand, has in intake close of 18*. The smallish TC88 bore needs an early intake close cam to boost dynamic compression. The OEM cam has an intake close of 34* so the 310-2 would be a step in the wrong direction.

Have to assume the OP's referring to an 06 Dyna, it validates DJL's question of longevity. If so, please disregard the prior ebay link I posted. It's for spring loaded tensioners covering all the other 06 & earlier models.

.
I've been debating which way to go, this decided it, I ordered the oil pump from Drag Specialties and the Ebay CYCO shoes kit, if I stay with my existing cam (maybe upgraded by PO) do I need to worry about the cam bearings? I'm thinking not.

Yes, as DJL says. The SM even has a warning regarding that. Even if it didn't, I'd replace them cause I'm there, not to mention the odd pressure they get pressing them out. Follow the book, special tools & all (you can get a lot of that stuff on the cheap).
