110 vs. 120st
Scott
I always wondered about taking all the guts out of the 120 and filling it with S&S parts. Would it be the same as taking a stock HD motor or would there be proprietary design restrictions preventing that from happening?
Quite brilliant!
S&S makes engines that swap with the TCs, so there can't be any design restrictions. There were reports of them when the TC96 first came out, but that seems to have gone away, or been resolved now.
As for removing the internals of a 120 and swapping them for S&S parts I don't see any benefit, just greatly increased costs! When looking at large engines for a recent bike the choice is clear, between SE120, JIMS 120/131 or S&S 124.

I've always wondered if it was possible to pick up a blown JIMS engine, drop a S&S 4-5/8" (124" not 120") crank in it, 4-1/4" pistons, etc.
S&S do indeed make a suitable 4 5/8" crank for your engine. Take a look at their website and also consider giving them a call or sending an email. I own an S&S Evo engine and have always found them helpful. They can probably put together a suitable kit of parts for you. Of course one of our resident engine experts can probably supply and fit......

The TC88 B motor is the redhead stepchild nobody wants to acknowledge
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't a 103" be a better choice than the 110" only because of the cost and ease of building it to107" with a modest 120 tq and115 hp as compared to building a 117" or 124" from a 110" platform?
