Default 110 vs. 120st

What is this I hear on the 120St costing less then a 110 motor for replacement?

I'd consider a 124" S&S before either.

I 100% agree with scott.with all their problems,i wouldn't even consider a 120R or a 110.either build your existing motor to 124" or just get a crate 124".building your existing motor allows you to,1. save money and 2. build a motor that can be tailored to your riding style exactly

I thought it would cost less to go with a crate 124" over the 124" Hot Set Up Kit - existing motor has to be disassembled, machining (Timken conversion, bore for bigger pistons, cam clearance), reassembled.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Stacks of expertise in here on upgrading engines and replacing them. Tell us more - what are you planning? My choice, given the budget, would also be an S&S 124, their LC version sounds just great.

The reason behind the Harley moco engines is a dealership blew up my engine on the dyno. They are replacing the engine on there dime I wanted something bigger then a stocker 103. I love power and I'm a aggressive you rider maybe its best I get the smaller 110.

A dealer is unlikely to fit a different brand, such as an S&S, but a bigger H-D one shouldn't be a problem. I assume you'll pick up the difference, but I admit I would chose a 120 over a 110, although check warranty on both of them first. I doubt if a 120 comes with much!

If the choice is between a 110" motor and a 120ST, bigger may not be better in terms of quality but a bigger platform to work from if the new motor goes Tango Uniform.

Well guys my original 96 bored to a 103 at the beginning of the year shat everything out the bottom of the engine case while a local Harley dealership was doing some fine tuning so I'm getting a new 103 on there checkbook. I opted to cover the 300 dollar difference to get a new 110 put in. I live higher rpm power Harleys leave the light right respectable as is I just want more top power I hate the falling on its face feeling when I get in the triple digits. I drive it daily.
