Default S&S 551 Cams

OK, I did a search. All I could find was 551's vs X Y and Z cams. I was thinking of these in my '13 103 this winter. I'm thinking of going all S&S, cams, pushrods and lifters. So anyone running them?

Not running them in my bike yet.... but this is probably going to be my winter upgrade. My bike runs great since I got it re-tuned in May but I have close to 65K on the bike and I want to inspect my lifters and crank run out. Also the guy who did the tune back in May is not going to charge me for another dyno as long as I buy the parts from him and he does the installation.

I thought the 583's were lighter bikes. I'm looking to put some more punch in a pig.

If Kirby suggests looking at the 583 cams, you might want to take a look.......

Which cam would benefit from more displacement, higher compression and head work? The 583 or the 551? I'm a little nervous installing a .583 lift in stock heads. FYI... I ride 15,000 miles per year primarily two up in the 2,000 to 4,000 rpm range but that may only be because of the stock cams.

Thanks in advance for your feedback prodrag1320.

they both get set @ 9.8-1 (here anyway),since the .583`s came out,we`ve used them over the 551,they hit almost as low but with mild headwork, they carry out a lot farther (light or heavy bike,we`ve seen no difference),if you do want to go a bit more aggressive, look at the T-MAN 590` set at 10.5-1 (all 3 can be installed in beehive heads with no worries, that said, clearances should ALWAYS be checked with any cam install)

I was looking for more power when passing on 2 lane roads. I'm completely satisfied with the 583G cams. Stock heads (for now).
