Assuming there is nothing wrong internally with the engine, and the flywheel teeth are good, these switches work great. They work with minimal voltage in a battery and bypass the starter relay and are easy to install. If your battery starts to fail on the road, it may be your saving grace to ride back home, vs. towing. If this starts your bike, my guess would be a failing relay if the starter benched ok. Don't wanna insult anyone , but make sure the bike is in neutral. I have a buddy who installed one and..........well u know where this is going.Good luck !!

Thanks for all the tips and advice, this is why I’m a member of the hog family. I voltmeter tested the drop and I’m getting 10.6 while trying to start. The reason I tried to jump start it is to ensure it had enough voltage to engage the bendix. Cleaned grounds, replaced relay, tried a new battery and still nothing. The starter engages but won’t turn the motor.

After talking to our family mechanic, he asked me to put the bike in 6th gear and trying pushing it with a plug out, well I couldn’t push it. His voice became somber as he said, “will it move backward?” It would so the next step is to remove the primary and see if the junk stock tensioner grenaded inside the case! Didn’t want to go that route but he’s thinking that a piece of tensioner is caught in the chain causing it to bind (best case). So if I’m lucky; oil, gasket, tensioner and a bunch of cursing and I’ll be back on the road.

Does anyone know if there’s a bolt removal pattern for removing the primary?

One at a time----------------
I would pull both plugs first and see what hydro locked.
Then pull the P. Cover.

How'd you pull the starter without opening the primary? Maybe I'm thinking of other models but I could have sworn that there was a starter bolt inside of the primary.

On HDs the solenoid is on the starter. The relay is under the seat.

You can simply slide out the start motor on 07 up HDs + 06 dynas.

When measuring volte drop while starting, measure it at the starter.

The suggestion to pull the plugs and rock back an forth in a higher gear is worth while. Make sure nothing is locked up.

It’s running now! After pulling the primary cover off to verify nothing was jammed in the chain, as well as pulling plugs to check for hydro-lock I decide to start back at the battery. Dropped it off at the manufacturer for testing, 4 days later I received a call saying, “We have your new battery ready to go, we apologize for the defective battery provided, we have introduced a new warranty.”

Put the new battery in, filled the primary (after changing the gasket and adjusting the clutch) and fired it up!

What a waste of time, makes me question the trust in auto parts store’s load testing. In any case I’m back on the road and will keep an eye on the new battery, thanks everyone for all the advice and suggestions along the way.

Safe Riding.

Lordy mercy. My first thought was bad battery but you said you tried a new one and it didn’t help. Are you saying you actually had two defective batteries before getting this sorted out?

Is your battery accepting voltage from the charging system?

The correct voltage?
